This didn’t occur to me until quite recently, but there’s a SECRET short game stat that we’ve all been ignoring for far too long, and it can have a HUGE impact on your scoring, no matter what level of golf you are playing.
Let me explain…
Have you ever considered “double chips” as a stat you should be looking to avoid at all costs?
When you consider the potential knock on effect of missing the green with a chip shot, we’re not just talking about a solitary shot that it’s costing you.
Often amateurs might duff it and be left with the exact same “up and down” conundrum, only this time with even more added pressure not to mess it up a second time and compound the mistake you’ve already made.
Thinning it over the back doesn’t inspire much confidence either for your next chip shot.
Frustration can creep in too, making the putt you eventually leave yourself with more of a challenge than it needs to be.
In short, double chipping can bring so much stress to your short game, so simplifying your approach, playing the sensible shot over the “perfect” chips shot, and simply making SURE you have a putter in your hands for your next shot should be an amateur golfer’s main priority.
There are some considerations to be made to ensure this happens, as outlined in this week’s video.
How often do you “double chip” per round of golf compared to the stats below?

DID YOU KNOW?
If you average 267 Yards with your driver, you are longer than 95% of amateur (male) golfers!
A scratch golfer will take 4 or more shots to get the ball in the hole from 110-119 yards in the fairway 24% of the time!
A typical Tour Pro misses 35% of putts from 6 feet.
Stats like the ones above help us manage our expectations on the golf course, learn the EXACT areas our games need to improve in, and basically stop lying to ourselves.
The best way to track your own stats? I would recommend Arccos Golf to anyone looking to level up their golf game. I mean, you can get better without even having to change your swing, but hopefully I can help you with that too!
