Newsletter #145: My Favourite Pitching Drill for Clean Contact:

This is one of my favourite pitching drills.

You can use it for:

  • Chips ✅

  • Pitches ✅

  • Little 20-yard shots ✅

  • Bigger 60-yard shots ✅

The distance doesn't really matter.

What matters is that it teaches one of the most important skills in the short game:

Clean strikes…

The problem…

What I see from lots of golfers is a tendency to drive the hands down and forwards through impact.

The result?

The club crashes into the ground.

The strike becomes inconsistent.

And suddenly a simple pitch shot feels far more difficult than it should. Then they get in your head, and all of a sudden a missed green is the stuff of nightmares!

Let’s take a look at how you fix it…

Why this drill works…

Lots of golfers focus on the clubhead. I want you thinking about the handle.

If the hands go:

  • Up ⬆️

  • Left ⬅️

  • And around 🔄

The club naturally works down to the ball and then back up again.

That gives you much better control of low point, and this is the key.

Better low point control means:

✔ Cleaner strike
✔ Better distance control
✔ More consistency around the greens

If you can’t strike your short game shots, you’re not even in the game. Try this drill out before you next go to the course and see if you can dial in your strikes and you’ll be on your way to enjoying your short game shots once again, rather than dreading them!

Something close to my heart…

What I would consider my home club (where I grew up learning the game of golf) is in the process of raising funds for a cancer charity that is close to my heart, and that of some of the members who helped me on my way in the world of golf.

If there is anything you can contribute to the cause, no matter how big or small, please use the QR code below.

No pressure, no expectations, just some charitable outreach on my part if this is something you can get behind…

I hope you enjoyed this issue and it helps your game!

Have a great Easter weekend!
