The Backswing Secret Most Golfers Are Missing...
Welcome back to part two of building a better backswing.
If you haven’t watched last week’s episode, go back and check that out first. If you have, you’ll remember that’s where we fixed your setup so you’re actually able to turn and tilt properly.
This week, we’re going to build on that…
What we’re trying to create:
In the backswing we want two things working together…
A good amount of turn ✔️
A good amount of tilt ✔️
Not one or the other. BOTH.
For reference, when I measure mine with an iron:
I get around 85° of shoulder turn ✔️
And around 35–40° of tilt ✔️
That combination is what keeps the club moving consistently while also helping you produce speed and power.
The key discovery most golfers miss…
To get both working together, you first need to figure out something simple:
Are you an “up” golfer or a “down” golfer?
Some players respond better to the feeling of something moving up.
Others respond better to something moving down.
Neither is right or wrong — it’s just how your brain responds to movement cues.
I’ll explain it all via the video above…

What we’re trying to achieve:
With irons, we want…
A slight forward bend from the hips (around 40°)
Shoulders roughly over the middle of the toes
A small, natural tilt away from the target
Not exaggerated ❌
Not forced ❌
Just enough to let the shoulders turn properly and maintain tilt ✅
That’s it. That one move creates the shift we’re looking for. Let me explain properly in the video above…
I hope you enjoyed this issue and it helps your game!
