The Missing Ingredient For a Perfect Backswing...

Newsletter #159 - Stop Just Turning & Do This Instead

A lot of golfers are trying so hard to turn in the backswing that they actually make the swing harder to control.

The problem isn’t the turn itself; you absolutely still need that.

The issue is when golfers think of the backswing as just rotation, without adding enough tilt.

That can get the shoulders too flat, change the club path and make controlling the low point much more difficult.

Instead, I want you to feel like you’re COMBINING your turn with more tilt.

Let me show you…

The Drill:

Here’s a really simple way to feel what I’m talking about and hit the perfect sweet spot in your backswing…

  • STEP ONE: Stand upright and turn your shoulders 90 degrees so you’re side-on ✅

  • STEP TWO: From there, simply tilt down towards the golf ball ✅

That combination of turn and tilt gives you a much better feeling for where your shoulders should be at the top of the backswing.

The big benefit?

From that position, it becomes much easier to unwind back towards the ball without having to make a huge compensation in the downswing.

Something close to my heart…

What I would consider my home club (where I grew up learning the game of golf) is in the process of raising funds for a cancer charity that is close to my heart, and that of some of the members who helped me on my way in the world of golf.

If there is anything you can contribute to the cause, no matter how big or small, please use the QR code below.

No pressure, no expectations, just some charitable outreach on my part if this is something you can get behind…

I hope you enjoyed this issue and it helps your game!

Have a great weekend!
