Trick Yourself Into the Perfect Downswing

Newsletter #157 - How To Fix Your Downswing WITHOUT Thinking About It

What if one of the easiest ways to improve your downswing…was to stop thinking about your downswing?

Sounds strange I know, but your body is very good at organising movement around where you're trying to get to.

If you give it the right destination after impact, then something very interesting can happen in the earlier stages of your swing.

This is where the magic lies, because you can start making pro-like downswing moves without even thinking or knowing about it.

Let me explain…

Giving your body a better destination:

A common problem I see is golfers pulling away from the ball through impact.

The body starts standing up ❌

The trail shoulder works upwards too early ❌

Suddenly you've shortened your reach to the ball ❌

That's when inconsistent strikes can start creeping in ❌

BUT…rather than trying to consciously fix everything that's happening on the way down, the video above teaches you how to almost trick your body into doing it for you.

The feeling is incredibly simple:

Keep your trail shoulder working DOWN and towards the target for longer than you think.

By focusing on where you want to be through and after impact, your body has to start preparing for that position much earlier.

Your downswing begins organising itself around the destination.

Today’s newsletter is brought to you by SKYTRAK ☝️☝️☝️:

Stop controlling. Start reacting.

That's what I really like about this drill.

You're not trying to manufacture five different positions in the downswing.

You're giving your body one simple task and allowing the movements before it to happen as a reaction.

In this week's lesson (video above) I'll show you exactly how to practise the feeling and why thinking about what happens after the ball could transform what happens before it.

Something close to my heart…

What I would consider my home club (where I grew up learning the game of golf) is in the process of raising funds for a cancer charity that is close to my heart, and that of some of the members who helped me on my way in the world of golf.

If there is anything you can contribute to the cause, no matter how big or small, please use the QR code below.

No pressure, no expectations, just some charitable outreach on my part if this is something you can get behind…

I hope you enjoyed this issue and it helps your game!
