Why You Rip Your Woods But Not Your Irons...

Newsletter #151 - Driver and Iron Swings Aren't the Same & Here’s The Difference:

We all know that it’s a universal law of golf that not ALL parts of your golf game can be on song at the same time 😂

But if you’re the type of golfer who gets on fine with their woods, but really struggles to strike their irons consistently, there's a good chance you're making one very common mistake...

You're using the same swing for both clubs. This simply doesn’t work. ❌

Your driver and your irons ask you to do very different things. They are two different disciplines.

With a driver, you're trying to sweep the ball away and if possible, hit up on it a little.

With an iron, you need to strike the ball first and the turf second, often with a descending blow.

If you carry your driver motion into your iron swing you can end up:

  • Hanging back ❌

  • Moving your low point behind the ball ❌

  • Hitting those frustrating fat and thin strikes ❌

Let’s talk about how we can fix this…

Next time you're practising, remember:

✔ Your driver swing isn't your iron swing.

✔ Ball-first contact starts with where your body is.

✔ Good iron players stay in a position that lets them strike down through the ball.

A small change in feel can make a huge difference to the quality of your strike.

Something close to my heart…

What I would consider my home club (where I grew up learning the game of golf) is in the process of raising funds for a cancer charity that is close to my heart, and that of some of the members who helped me on my way in the world of golf.

If there is anything you can contribute to the cause, no matter how big or small, please use the QR code below.

No pressure, no expectations, just some charitable outreach on my part if this is something you can get behind…

I hope you enjoyed this issue and it helps your game!

Please reply to this email with requests for future topics you would like me to cover.

Have a great weekend!
