You're Probably Starting the Downswing Wrong...

Newsletter #144: Try This at the Top of Your Swing:

I've got a really good downswing feel for you today…

It's simple, works with both irons and driver, and can help with three things that lots of golfers struggle with:

  • Club path ✅

  • Strike quality ✅

  • Distance ✅

Not a bad combination!

The problem…

One of the most common patterns I see is golfers starting the downswing by pulling everything in towards them.

  • The arms get tight ❌

  • The club gets crowded ❌

  • Everything bunches up ❌

Then right at the bottom of the swing they have to make a whole series of last-second corrections just to find the ball.

Some days they time it perfectly.

Other days they don't.

That's where inconsistency lives. Does this sound familiar?? Let’s get to the bottom of it…

Today’s newsletter is brought to you by ARCCOS:

Why this drill works…

  • First, it helps stop the shoulders spinning open too early ✅

  • Second, it allows the club to drop onto a much better path ✅

  • Third, it creates width in the downswing ✅

That width is HUGE!

Because when golfers stay wide, they tend to:

  • Control low point better

  • Deliver loft more consistently

  • Get more distance from the speed they're creating

This is a brilliant way to improve path, strike and distance all at once.

Give it a try and let me know how you get on.

Something close to my heart…

What I would consider my home club (where I grew up learning the game of golf) is in the process of raising funds for a cancer charity that is close to my heart, and that of some of the members who helped me on my way in the world of golf.

If there is anything you can contribute to the cause, no matter how big or small, please use the QR code below.

No pressure, no expectations, just some charitable outreach on my part if this is something you can get behind…

I hope you enjoyed this issue and it helps your game!

Please reply to this email with requests for future topics you would like me to cover.

Have a great Easter weekend!
